Rob is currently Project Manager for the NextGen-SAF project. He joined University of Sheffield in January 2026, and has spent the past 25 years working in the University sector, at the interface of research and industry.

Previously he spent 9 years at Cranfield University, working with many advanced technologies in the aerospace, automotive, agritech, water, defence and energy sectors. His experience includes the commercialisation of IP via the establishing of spin out companies and managing critical industrial relationships with large organisations such as BAE Systems, Airbus and the Gates Foundation. Historically, he was involved in the rapidly expanding mobile phone industry in the UK, and managed the UK’s first large field trial of video-on-demand technology in the 1990s.

He brings a wide breadth and depth of experience to the NextGen-SAF project.
