Geoffrey Robinson Limited will provide a bespoke research equipment infrastructure package

After a competitive tender process, the Translational Energy Research Centre is pleased to announce that Geoffrey Robinson Limited have been awarded the contract to design, install and commission the research equipment infrastructure for the internal and external research areas of the facility.

The contract will see a huge range of bespoke gas, pipework and electrical installations, including mechanical, electrical, ventilation and exhaust services, to support the unique research equipment the Translational Energy Research Centre will host. The infrastructure will support both the day-to-day functioning of the pilot-scale rigs and help to enable the ‘plug-and-play’ approach for guest research teams.

Geoffrey Robinson Limited, based in Billingham, is an award-winning, family-owned building services contractor, with particular expertise in complex buildings, including medical construction. Last year it was awarded a national Electrical Contractors Association (ECA) award for works undertaken whilst upgrading electrical services at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne, and more recently it designed and carried out building, mechanical, electrical and ventilation services to the NHS Nightingale Hospital North East during the COVID-19 lockdown period.

The Geoffrey Robinson Limited team have been working with the Translational Energy Research Centre project team to ensure engineering knowledge and ambitious, carefully tailored research and design plans are brought together to create a world-class facility which is supported by purpose-built infrastructure.

Speaking about the project, XXXX, XXXXX at Geoffrey Robinson Limited said: “As a family owned and managed business, we recognise that we are assisting with the construction of a leading technological building facility, which will have the capacity to continue to research and develop carbon capture and other technology which will support a net zero emissions future in line with the future demand, and requirements of emerging energy technologies.

“We will co-operate with all teams in an open and transparent manner to ensure our engineering skills, knowledge and experience is brought to bear on this groundbreaking project.”

Translational Energy Research Centre Project Manager Matthew Jee said: “We are delighted to have Geoffrey Robinson Limited on board to help us deliver our specific and unique requirements as a research and testing centre. Their considerable understanding of the project at hand will be a huge benefit in creating our world-class pilot-scale facility.”
