The University of Sheffield’s Energy Innovation Centre has been officially recognised as a fuels testing facility by the UK Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Clearing House. With this prestigious recognition, the EIC is nationally recognised to conduct essential testing to international standards and evaluate new SAF technologies, helping innovators to bring viable fuels to market faster.
The EIC’s provides in-depth compositional and qualitative analysis of fuels across all critical stages: pre-combustion, combustion, and post-combustion. The centre’s SAF laboratory is equipped to characterise and evaluate samples for a broad range of chemical, physical, and performance-related properties. All testing is conducted in strict accordance with internationally recognised standards, including ASTM and IP test methods.
The certification marks a major milestone in the development and certification of next-generation, low-carbon aviation fuels in the UK, and builds upon the EIC’s certification to the ISO 9001 quality management standard.
Matthew Jee, Director of the UK SAF Clearing House, said: “We are pleased to certify the Energy Innovation Centre (EIC) as a recognised test facility for the UK SAF Clearing House programme. Their expertise and capabilities will play an important role in supporting fuel producers as they progress through testing and qualification, helping to accelerate the deployment of sustainable aviation fuels in the UK.”
UK SAF Clearing House
The UK SAF Clearing House is a key national initiative supporting the Government’s ambition to accelerate the use of sustainable aviation fuels as part of the Jet Zero Strategy. Part of the UK SAF Clearing House remit is to coordinate towards SAF fuel testing, expand and develop the depth and breadth of aviation fuel test capability within the UK to support the move towards increasing SAF deployment.
